Storyline
The film begins with Sanjay Dutt preparing to surrender to the Supreme Court judgment related to illegal possession of arms. Before he goes to jail, he decides to tell his real life story to author Winnie Diaz so that the world can hear his truth instead of believing media accusations.
The story moves back to Sanjay’s youth, showing his struggle with drug addiction after losing his mother Nargis to cancer. His father, Sunil Dutt, tries everything to save him, from rehab centers to emotional support. Despite multiple relapses, Sanjay keeps falling deeper into addiction, losing relationships and destroying his career.
He finds hope through his best friend Kamli, who becomes his emotional backbone. Kamli represents loyalty, forgiveness, and unconditional friendship.
As Sanjay gains fame, he becomes tangled in the 1993 Bombay Blast investigation. Misunderstandings, wrong company, and bad decisions lead to Sanjay being labeled a terrorist, tearing his life apart. He battles court cases, arrests, media trials, and public hatred. Throughout the chaos, his father stands tall as his strongest pillar.
Sanju's journey covers his broken love life, film career ups and downs, imprisonment, intense loneliness, and eventual acceptance of responsibility. The film closes with Sanjay Dutt emerging as a man who has lost a lot but finally found peace with himself.

An emotional masterpiece.
Ranbir Kapoor transforms completely into Sanjay Dutt — voice, body language, expressions — everything is flawless. The film beautifully shows the bond between a father and son, the importance of true friendship, and how even celebrities fight real battles.
